Mercury Marine honors and thanks military personnel ahead of Veterans Day

Nov. 9, 2018

Fond du Lac, Wis. – Mercury Marine honored both past and present military veterans with a special celebration today at the company’s global headquarters in Fond du Lac. A special message of thanks was played at 11:11 a.m. and 11:11 p.m. throughout the entire campus where employees stopped and paid tribute to the Stars and Stripes. With Veterans Day on Sunday this year, Mercury decided to celebrate a few days early to ensure all employees had the opportunity to participate.

Amber Nikolai, American Legion department adjutant, was the special guest speaker for the event.

“It is our honor to celebrate women and men who have risked their lives to protect our freedom,” said Andres Gonzalez, Mercury Marine vice president of human resources. “We want to show our appreciation to the veterans who work at Mercury, have worked at Mercury or live in our community. It’s a great day to honor our heroes.”

Mercury and Brunswick Corporation have been honored with numerous awards recently including Brunswick’s position as a Top 100 Military Friendly® Employer in 2014, as well as Mercury’s award for being named a Military Friendly Employer by Victory Media and GI Jobs.

“The goal of our Mercury Marine Military Veteran Employee Network (M3VN) is to unite, promote, honor, attract, engage and promote the hiring of veterans,” said Gonzalez. “We have a large sign outside of our facility that says, ‘We Hire Heroes.’ Their work ethic, dedication and commitment will be honored every day here at Mercury.”

The program also included a color guard and musical performances in honor of Veterans Day.

Mercury continues to be one of the only Wisconsin manufacturers that guarantees interviews to any veteran who applies for a job.
