Quick Tip: How to Install Rock Guards

For boaters, nothing compares to a day on the water. There’s something so pure and so inexplicably perfect when you launch a boat in the water, throttle away from land, and let the buoyant blue world around you nourish your body, mind and soul. And as any boater will tell you, the only thing that beats a day on the water is the next one.

That’s why protecting your investment is so important, not only when it’s in the water, but also when it’s out, including any time you trailer it from one spot to another. Rocks, salt and other road debris can easily damage your boat. And in some areas of the country, getting to the best boating and fishing spots means traveling considerable distances on gravel roads. A great solution to this problem is to install a rock guard on your boat, tow vehicle or both.

Rock guards on your tow vehicle install directly onto your trailer hitch and offer protection across the width of both rear tires. For boats, there are rock guards that cover the bow and are made to fit many popular boat models.

Relatively inexpensive and easy to install, these two products will go a long way in protecting your boat from damage during transit. And when not transporting a boat, you can easily remove the rock guard to reduce wind drag and improve fuel economy.

In this Quick Tip video, our friends at Wired2Fish demonstrate how to install a rock guard to your vehicle and a bow rock guard to your vessel, so that you can protect your boat anytime you need to move it from one place to the next.
